Kath Fitzgerald from Featherstone is the owner of Paw Pals Pontefract, with occasional support from Waggle, her miniature Jack Russell puppy!

The inspiration for her fulfilling a lifelong ambition of working with pets came from the death of her Bassett Hound Murphy who sadly passed away due to a brain tumour. Since his death, Kath has looked for an opportunity to care for animals in a professional capacity, dedicated to caring for other's people's pets with all the love and devotion she gives her own.

Kath grew up on a farm and has been surrounded by animals all her life. She has also lived in the area for over 15 years and knows all the best spots to take your beloved canine friends for their one-to-one walks. Kath will never walk dogs in groups (unless requested) so your dog will receive extra special fuss and attention!

Kath intends to be the best pet carer in her area and animal welfare is her top priority. As well as providing organic cat and dog food for her four legged friends, she also has a formal pet sitting qualification from COAPE - the Centre of Applied Pet Ethology, covering pet first aid, nutrition, behaviour and pet care legislation. 

Kath is fully insured, police-checked and a member of Pet Sitters International and all certificates will be shown during the customer consultation.

Paw Pals Pontefract has also been granted a full licence for dog boarding from Wakefield district council.

I was very impressed at how professional yet friendly she was and impressed with the set up – criminal record checks etc. and the thorough service offered not only walking him but also seeing to things at home such as opening curtains, bringing in post etc.

"Knowing that Heratio is not home alone all day is great peace of mind. Kath visits him every day takes him out for a walk (although some days I am sure he takes her for the walk!), and sees that he has enough water treats etc – Kath has even been able to visit at short notice if we found ourselves unable to get home which shows true commitment!

"As a Dalmatian puppy he is very boisterous (in a friendly way) and extremely energetic – I was concerned that a dog walker may find him too much of a handful but Kath with her experience of many animals has bonded well with him. She makes him behave as we do and ensures he continues with any training we are doing at a given time – sitting to cross the road, for treats, not jumping up etc. If he is good and to help with him socialise with other animals sometimes Waggle comes too -  which Heratio loves!
